— Can you help us make Aotearoa a better, more inclusive and equitable, more sustainable, more productive place for all?

We are looking for a Senior Developer who is skilled, confident, enthusiastic and collaborative to join our multidisciplinary team. You will be helping shape and deliver websites and web applications that make a significant difference.

At DNA we build outstanding user interfaces for websites and applications that tackle meaningful problems and are tailored for the users that will benefit the most. To deliver a fantastic user experience you will partner with other disciplines, work alongside client teams or third-party developers and participate in defining solutions, and preparing requirements.

About DNA.

DNA is a leading design and digital consultancy made up of a great bunch of people who help businesses and government solve problems, innovate and deliver empowering human-centred experiences.

We are an organisation that holds people at the heart of what we do - it’s in our DNA. We will provide you with flexibility, creative opportunities, resources and support to help you grow and a working environment that fosters collaboration and treats everyone equally worthy of respect and dignity.

In return we expect you to be curious and always looking beyond the obvious or formulaic, passionate about developing your capabilities, energetic, open and committed to working collaboratively to deliver great user experiences.

In this role, you will.

  • Be able to take initiative and produce results.
  • Be able to collaborate effectively with a talented team.
  • Demonstrate an ability to suggest and carry out practical actions to deal with issues.
  • Identify compromises and alternatives to the problems you face.
  • Communicate well in-person, on-screen and in writing.
  • Lead new projects from start to finish – and then support your work ongoing.
  • Know what needs to be done and don't need much probing to get things underway.
  • Help chart the course of projects and guide clients towards the best and most appropriate technical solutions.
  • Have a keen eye for detail and pride in the quality of your work.
  • Have an appreciation for designers, clients, project managers and testers and enjoy having them involved all the way through the process.
  • Enjoy the challenge of learning new stacks, new technologies and new ways of working.
  • Participate in a vibrant, creative and purposeful team culture.

We will provide you.

  • Flexible working hours. We know there’s more to life than work, and we encourage our employees to find patterns of working that fit their individual needs as well as those of the team.
  • Remote-work ready. Our preference is for a Wellington-based developer – but we will consider candidates from other locations.
  • Opportunity to coach and mentor other developers
  • Opportunity to work closely with your team, designers and clients to deliver outstanding work
  • Opportunity to develop your skills, try new things, improve standards and champion new practices for the business
  • An open, creative and energetic working environment, where you can help shape, build and enhance the team's culture and way of working.

We are looking for.

We are looking for people from diverse backgrounds who have experience in some or all of the areas outlined in this job description – however, you must have over 5 years of experience and be able to demonstrate great front and backend skills.

  • 5+ years of experience with HTML, CSS (SASS) and Javascript.
  • 5+ years of experience with PHP frameworks (preferably SilverStripe).
  • Confident working with JavaScript frameworks or libraries like React or Vue
  • Knowledge and experience implementing best practice accessibility (WCAG 2.0).
  • Experience with source control systems, branching structures and setting up and running unit testing.

At DNA, we are absolutely committed to providing a safe work environment that embraces and designs for the diversity of the communities, cultures and people across Aotearoa. As a team, we are proud to come from a variety of backgrounds, races, religions, cultures, sexual orientations, ages, and abilities.

We acknowledge that a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment is an ongoing journey and are dedicated to improving the experiences of those from marginalised groups in the way we work and the work we deliver.

If any of this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you – send us your CV and code samples, links to commit on open source projects, your portfolio or GitHub profile.

— As part of your cover letter, please let us know if there's anything we can do to make this process comfortable for you.

Applicants for this position must have NZ residency or a valid NZ Work Visa, will be required to be double vaccinated and may need to undertake security and credit-check clearances.
